MARK TWAIN LAKE GRANT

        (MONROE CITY)—Mark Twain Lake and the surrounding area will benefit from a 3.3 million dollar watershed conservation grant. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon announced the grant Tuesday. The grant will help farms better control runoff and improve soil quality over 200-thousand acres. It’s part of 28.3 million dollars Missouri will receive over the next five years to fund a dozen projects around the state.

 

WNV IN CLARK CO

        (UNDATED)—Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services confirms a human case of West Nile Virus in Clark County. The gender and age of that person hasn’t been released. Another West Nile case is reported in St. Louis County. West Nile Virus first appeared in Missouri in 2002 with 168 confirmed cases. Last year there were just five cases. Overall 450 people have contracted the illness with 24 fatalities.


MISSOURI LABOR DAY FATALS

        (JEFFERSON CITY)—Seven people lost their lives on Missouri streets and highways during the long Labor Day holiday weekend. One fatality was in the city of St. Louis. A Grandview man died Friday when his car failed to make a curve and went into the trees. An ATV accident near Gerald on Sunday claimed one life. Four people were killed in crashes on Monday. Those crashes occurred in southern Missouri. Troopers worked 294 crashes statewide between 6 p-m Friday and 11:59 Monday night. Those crashes resulted in 148 injuries. Troopers also report making 190 arrests around the state for DWI… up from 149 a year ago.

 

NEW PALMYRA LICENSE OFFICE OPERATOR

        (PALMYRA)—Missouri Department of Revenue officials say Joseph Smith is the new agent for the Palmyra Motor Vehicle License office. Smith’s bid was one of two received for the office inside the Marion County Courthouse. Smith is a Bowling Green resident and is the former Bowling Green City Administrator. Thursday is the last day for Larry Markley to operate the Palmyra office. During the transition between agents… the office will be closed for a few days and those needing vehicle related services can head for the offices in Hannibal… Monroe City or Shelbina.
